I am a volunteer for the Prostate Project helping them with their fundraising strategy and appeals.

The Prostate Project is a volunteer lead charity based at the Sokes Centre for Urology at Royal Surrey Hospital.

For more than 25 years, the charity has been raising funds for the research, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, an illness that kills 12,000 men in the UK every year. In addition to this work, the charity has a key objective to encourage men over the age of 45 to have a simple PSA blood test, the most effective early warning indicator for a cancer that has very few symptoms in its early stages.

Caught early enough, prostate cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer, which is why the PSA test is so important.

Recently, the Prostate Project launched a mobile PSA blood testing clinic, known affectionately as ‘The Man Van’. This specially adapted vehicle is capable of delivering PSA testing into the community, and its high profile presence helps to raise awareness of the disease.

The Stokes Centre for Urology, a facility built and funded in part by the Prostate Project has helped to establish Guildford as one of the leading centres of its type in the world, attracting the very best research talent, and clinicians to Surrey.

The generosity of individuals, and business supporters have raised more than £11 million to date, money that has helped to save, and prolong the lives of countless men in the last 25 years.
